周柏旭，西南财经大学经济学博士。研究成果发表在《经济科学》、《上海金融》、《Emerging Markets Finance and Trade》和《Finance Research Letters》等国内外学术期刊。主持和参与国家自然科学基金项目、中央高校基本科研业务费专项资金项目、教育与教学改革项目等，多次参加国际国内学术会议。研究方向主要为：发展经济学、量化历史、气候变化等。

内容简介:

This study examines the impact of a minority language, as a form of human capital, on international trade. By utilizing historical Korean immigration as a natural experiment, we employ transaction-level customs data from 2000 to 2015 to identify the causal impact of common Korean language on bilateral trade between China and Korean-speaking countries. We show that a 1% increase in the proportion of population speaking Korean will increase value share and transactions share in trade by 1.8% and 2.3%, respectively. These effects are more pronounced in trade with North Korea and in high trade share regions. Interestingly, the effects are mainly observed at the extensive margin rather than the intensive margin. Further, we show that the common Korean language exerts its influence through specific channels such as categories of goods, methods of trade, and modes of transportation. The findings underscore the viability of leveraging minority language as a catalyst for bilateral trade in developing countries.
